George’s secret key to the Universe fiction review
By: Scott
Just as George was starting to enjoy Cosmos, the world’s most powerful computer, something terrible happens. When his friend falls into a black hole, George has to save him.
Just like George discovers in George’s Secret Key to the Universe by Lucy & Stephen Hawking, I also feel like we should embrace science and use it for good.
George Greenby, the protagonist, is an 11-year-old boy living with his eco warrior parents next to Eric, the scientist who has Cosmos, the most powerful computer in the world. He thinks that his parents are weird because they are eco-warriors. Through Eric and Cosmos he learns all about the universe. He is sad because Eric fell into a black hole, so George tries his best to save Eric, but will he be in time to save his best friend?
Graham Reaper, Greeper, is a mean teacher at George's school. Graham used to be Eric’s best friend but then a terrible accident made Eric’s Graham worst enemy, even if Eric does not realize it. Now, at school Graham is suspiciously asking George about Eric, and is constantly being weird, as if Graham weren't telling George something. He wants to steal Cosmos from Eric and use it for his own evil intentions.
When George sees Eric’s worst enemy, Graham Reaper, sends Eric a letter, and George tries to stop Eric from following it but Eric follows it and ends up trapped in a black hole, and George must save him.
George's secret key to the universe shows that technology is not causing climate change, but the decisions of how technology is used does cause climate change. George says, ”We really do need to look after it [earth]” (p327). Eric also says, ”People are concerned about the state of the earth” (p213). George learns not to give up when life is very hard or difficult. He also learns that he should use his power for good not bad. This allows him to have the persistence to rescue Eric from a black hole.
George’s secret key to the universe is an amazing book about science and climate change. I recommend it to everyone and anyone who likes suspense and sci-fi. You can find little science facts in the chapters, to explain what's going on. You should read this book because it's exciting and suspenseful while giving interesting facts and information. My favorite part is at the end of the book, when George makes an interesting speech. It makes your brain think about new and novel things, so read the book to find them out!
